Walks to and around historic Brockenhurst

The New Forest is a lovely area to walk around, especially around Brockenhurst. The leaflets below highlight walking routes and both nature and history along the journey. 

Brockenhurst played a notable role in the First World War, primarily as hospitals for first Indian and later New Zealand soldiers. A three hour walk with some slopes to and from the Church area (Tilebarn). Please take care crossing roads. You can read about World War One in the village here.

World War One village

A three hour walk, on flat paths and pavements, guiding through the places with links to the Second World War and the significant role Brockenhurst played. This route crosses roads where care needs to be taken.

World War Two village

A three to four hour walk, on flat paths and pavements, though surrounding ground in the forest can be boggy in wet weather. Take the train to Beaulieu Road, and then walking back to Brockenhurst via Denny Lodge and Balmer Lawn.

Rail and Ramble

A two-and-a-half to three hour walk on road pavements and gravel paths, with some hills. Take the train to Sway and walk back to Brockenhurst, partly on the original trackbed of the 1843 Southampton and Dorchester Railway which was closed in the 1960s.
